Self Evident Truths

This lovely participant had not only a moustache necklace, but also a mustache tattoo on her finger. WIN!

The Self Evident Truths project came to X Bar in Denver this year, creating portraits of anyone who considers themselves anything other than 100% straight.

From the website:

IT IS TIME TO SHOW PEOPLE OUR FACES, SO THAT THEY MUST ACKNOWLEDGE OUR VARIETY, OUR HUMANITY,
AND OUR DIGNITY. FAMILIARITY BEGETS EMPATHY:
“HEY, THAT LOOKS LIKE MY DAUGHTER / SON /
FRIEND / WIFE / FATHER.”

Kenosha's Annual Moustache Contest

Every year this fiasco in Breckenridge, Colorado raises money (ironically) for Advocates for Victims of Assault, a local non-profit. The contest features a $500 cash prize, lots of awesome prizes including snowboards, and of course the finest Mo's that our fine town has to offer.

The winner!

Leftover Salmon in Breckenridge

Random Dude. (Please contact me, random dude. I want to put you in MY BOOK)

There comes a time in every man's life when he's pulled out of a crowd at a concert and a woman with cameras says to him, "Hello. I notice you have a magnificent moustache. May I photograph it?"
Okay, maybe not EVERY man, but the lucky ones.

Here are some of my favorite moustaches found at the Leftover Salmon show in Breckenridge, Colorado.

 Breck local Bill Axtel.
It took a coupld years, but he finally folded and let me photograph his epic stache.

The Brownchicken Browncow Stringband

I had the pleasure of hosting the Brownchicken Browncow Stringband as they passed through Golden, Colorado on their national concert tour last month. The newest member of the band, Miss Kat Fountain, is a dear friend of mine from back home in Connecticut. The crew needed some new shots that included Kat so we took these outside of my house. To my great joy, they suggested a moustache pic (above). That's when I knew we would be great friends. Matt, the bassist has already crossed over to the dark side so there was no reason to put an instrument over his face.

Matt and his moustache.

These fabulous people and musicians were a joy to have around and our home was full of great food and great music in between their shows. I could tell you who plays what, but they all play about 15 instruments, thus the wall of sound next to the van. (By the way, they are raising money to replace the van, "The Predator," on Kickstarter. Check it out and throw down a few bucks if you have it to spare! It'll help them get their kick-ass music to a town near you.
You can listen to their music here:
The moral of the story is... if Kat, Xander, Orion, Matt & Justin ask if they can crash on your floor for a few days - do it. You will be repaid grandly with a full belly and a full heart. Come back soon, guys!

Orion cooks up a mean dinner. (Mean in a good way).

The view through the dog fence... Orion on mandolin.

Xander in the kitchen.

Yes, Kat the harmonica/harp player in also learning trombone.
